Independent, Integrated & Private Equity

Over the last several years we have seen the continued market consolidation of independent medical practices. Many groups became part of an integrated system while others joined together to form “super groups” still under physician control. Private equity acquisition is now a player as well. While many physicians may still be considering these options, there are those who learned the grass was not greener and are seeking to regain their independence. Every model comes with benefits and challenges. This session will address the factors a physician should consider before deciding.

Objectives

  • Define the primary ownership/employment models for a physician practice
  • Outline the characteristics of each structure
  • Identify the issues one should consider in choosing a practice structure

Cybersecurity: Developing a Vision for Security & Risk Management

Healthcare faces greater cybersecurity risk than other industries due to the amount and sensitivity of patient information. As a result of healthcare's general weaknesses in security, this information is particularly vulnerable. On average, healthcare organizations experience 109 attempted attacks each week and an estimated 43% of all cyberattacks target small businesses. This presentation dives into how to protect your practice and its reputation through a Security Risk Assessment, the development and implementation of techniques to mitigate cybersecurity risk, and assist in the development of cybersecurity education for staff.

Objectives

  • Discuss the fundamentals of a Security Risk Assessment
  • Develop techniques to mitigate cybersecurity risks within a practice
