Kathy Cartwright and Divya Parikh

Kathy Cartwright is Assistant Vice President of Risk Analytics for SVMIC where she oversees the coding and reporting of claims and incidents that may result in a lawsuit. Kathy and her team collaborate with other departments to identify opportunities for sharing information with physicians and their office staff to address potential risk in a variety of medical settings. Prior to joining SVMIC in 2009, Kathy practiced nursing in the hospital, physician office and managed care settings. She also worked in quality improvement and patient education during her years in healthcare. She has certifications as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and a Legal Nurse Consultant Certified (LNCC). P. Divya Parikh, MPH is Vice President of Research & Education for the Medical Professional Liability (MPL) Association, with responsibilities in leading key strategic initiatives for research, education, and technology. MPL Association (formerly PIAA), is a nonprofit trade association of MPL insurance companies owned and operated by domestic and international healthcare professionals and health systems. Ms. Parikh joined the MPL Association in August 2007 and oversees the association’s efforts to maintain the Data Sharing Project (DSP), which is the world's largest independent medical professional liability research database, providing a rich resource for the investigation of the underlying causes pertaining to MPL claims. Ms. Parikh has published numerous articles discussing MPL claims trends in medical journals as well as industry-related publications. She presents at workshops and meetings for the MPL industry domestically and internationally. Ms. Parikh also serves as Program Director for the Fellows Leadership Program and the Chief Medical Officer Roundtable. Prior to joining the MPL Association, Ms. Parikh served as the Clinical Research Coordinator and Intramural Training Director at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Ms. Parikh holds a Master of Public Health Degree from Johns Hopkins University and earned double Bachelor of Science Degrees in Zoology and Psychology from the University of Maryland.

Brian Fortenberry is Assistant Vice President of Underwriting at SVMIC where he assists in evaluating risk for the company and assisting policyholders with underwriting issues. He has been involved with medical professional liability insurance since 2007. Prior to his work at SVMIC, Brian worked in the clinical side of medicine and in broadcast media.
